Athens police have arrested a man they say admitted stealing a car several weeks ago.

Police say a 2011 BMW was reported stolen from the 100 block of Shady Lane on June 8. Investigators contacted BMW and tracked the vehicle to Brentwood, Tennessee. They contacted Brentwood police, who spotted the car on Interstate 65. The driver, 22-year-old Allen Delaney Marshall, was arrested.
Athens investigators traveled to Brentwood to interview Marshall. They said he admitted taking the car because he was homeless.
Marshall was released to Athens police custody on Thursday and charged with first-degree theft of property. He was booked in Athens and will be transferred to the county jail.
