1 commentBy popular demand, here is a new photo gallery of the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage Racing unveiled last night in Pebble Beach. When it was introduced in May, BMW’s 3.0 CSL Hommage was met with mixed reactions — some loved the flashy yellow paint job and the quirky lines, while other felt the car didn’t pay tribute to the original 3.0 CSL.
BMW’s chief designer Karim Habib said the new R version is what the car was initially envisioned to be. Gone is the yellow of the earlier concept car, replaced with the BMW racing livery. A change in color and the 3. CSL Hommage seems to have hidden its odd lines and now it has turned into a stunning machine.
The flared arches, the stretched body with air deflectors and the beautiful rear wing that emerges almost from the rear arches, give the car that racing look we’ve been accustomed to. BMW says the 3.0 CSL Hommage has the broadest and lowest face of any model in the family. It also comes with laser lights and LED tech, a carbon fiber front splitter and an oversized kidney grille.
Inside, the driver’s display is integrated through the visor of the driver’s helmet as a Head-Up display. There is also a carbon fiber roll cage, a pair of carbon seat shells and a rear carbon fiber structural brace.
BMW won’t say what engine powers the 3.0 CSL Hommage, but judging by the sound of the car, we believe the S55 engine from the M3/M4 is found under the hood. The energy accumulators placed behind the seats could hint to a potential electric motor as well.
We put together a comprehensive photo gallery showing the car from all angles. Take a look.
