Just after the 2014 BMW 2 Series coupe's public reveal at the 2014 Detroit auto show, BMW has the online configurator for this new compact sports coupe up and running. We already knew the base prices of the BMW 228i and M235i coupes, but this build-your-own tool allows for the opportunity to play around with the various combinations available for BMW's new entry-level model.

The 2014 BMW 2 Series lineup starts off with the $33,025 228i coupe, which is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine sending 240 hp to the rear wheels. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard, with a six-speed manual as a no-cost option. From there, buyers can select either the $2300 Sport Line that adds 18-inch wheels, a sport suspension, and sport seats, or the $3000 M Sport Line that has an aerodynamic body kit, an M Sport steering wheel, and even sportier suspension tuning. Numerous packages are available, like the $700 Cold Weather package with heated seats and steering wheel; the $1000 Dynamic Handling Package with sport steering and an adaptive suspension; the $2150 Technology package with navigation, USB and Bluetooth integration, and BMW App support; and the $4050 Premium package with keyless entry, leather, power front seats, satellite radio, and a moonroof. A fully-loaded BMW 228i with the M Sport Line comes in just under $49,000.

The sportiest BMW 2 Series is the $44,025 M235i coupe, which receives a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine that puts out 322 hp. That's a big number for such a small car, and the M235i comes standard with an adaptive M Sport suspension along with M Sport brakes and variable sport steering. The M235i has a similar option package lineup as the 228i, although package prices are slightly less due to the longer list of standard features on the M235i. A 2014 BMW M235i loaded up with the Cold Weather, Driver Assistance, Technology, and Premium Packages tops $53,000, a surprising sum considering that it's only around $4000 more than a less-powerful, loaded 228i coupe.
