UPDATED (12:22 p.m. Friday, April 1): The Corgi Conference has been cancelled, according to an announcement posted Thursday on the event's Facebook page by organizer Kendall Seale:

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED!!

With the amount of people wishing to attend the park district informed me of the safety hazardous and that their park can not handle this many people! I'm sorry to have to do this but out of respect and safety of other people in that area I have to cancel this.

There's just something adorable about a Welsh corgi, whether it's a Pembroke or a Cardigan.

With its stout stature and friendly mug, the corgi has a scrappy charm that some people find irresistible.

That's why April's Corgi Conference in Deerfield makes perfect sense. The event, which is April 23 at the Jaycee Dog Park, 1026 Wilmot Road, lets owners and fans of the breed get together and soak up all that compact canine cuteness.

This isn't the first time the Chicago area has held a corgi-centric event. Last September, Corgi Beach Day at Montrose Dog Beach gave the dogs a chance to enjoy Lake Michigan, even though there were concerns that too many attendees—particularly an influx of corgi-less people known as "corgi lurkers"—might force organizers to cancel the event.

While crowd issues might pose a problem for the Deerfield conference, organizer Kendall Seale held a similar corgi meetup this month in West Dundee without incident, according to the Chicagoist.

So what do you need to know if you want to attend the Corgi Conference? Patch breaks it down for you.

Do I need to buy tickets or register?

The event is free, but corgi owners are encouraged to RSVP at the conference's Facebook page.

Even if you don't RSVP, you can still attend by meeting in the parking lot of the park's dog exercise area.

Can I attend even if I don't have a dog? Can I bring a dog that's not a corgi?

"It ... is a public place so I can't tell someone they can't come cause they don't have a dog or a dog that's a different breed," Seale wrote on Facebook.

However, Seale did say she prefer if certain breeds, such as pit bulls, were not at the event.

"I have a pit bull mix and he plays amazingly with my corgi but when he's around a lot of them he gets a prey drive," she wrote. "I love pit bulls they're amazing dogs with a bad stigma. At the same time this is a public place so I can't say a solid no."

Organizers also posted this reminder on its Facebook page:

"Dog parks strongly recommends [sic] that puppies have gone through the entire cycle of vaccinations including rabies and bordetella as a precautionary measure and for the safety and well being of your pup.

"We do NOT allow aggressive dogs or females in heat at our events. Every owner is responsible 100% for their own pet.

"In addition, there should be no toys, treats or food as it could create issues among other dogs who may have toy/food aggression."

How long will the conference last?

"Two hours," Seale wrote. "I'm gonna try and stay the whole time so I can meet everyone that can't come when it starts."

Can I rent a corgi for the event?

"I wish there was a thing such as rent a corgi would be a very big business!" Seale wrote.
